The Inspector Advisory Committee met virtually on聽April 12.聽聽During the meeting, Deputy Executive Director, Tony Slagle provided a legislative update.聽He informed us that there聽are two inspector-related bills that are up for consideration by the state legislature.聽 The聽first,聽聽relates to聽聽eliminating the Inspector Recovery Fund.聽 With the requirement for inspectors to carry insurance, this fund聽is underutilized.聽 If the fund is eliminated, the current funds will be dispersed out in a few ways.聽 Some聽of the funds聽聽will聽stay in reserve for potential claims that may come up that are still within the statute of limitations,聽some聽will聽go to the聽state鈥檚聽general revenue fund, and some may be refunded back to currently licensed inspectors.聽

The聽second bill,聽, relates to聽the removal of the Real Estate Inspector license type. This would help聽further聽accomplish聽streamlining the inspector application process聽as recommended by the Sunset聽Commission in 星空体育app下载 last Sunset review聽.聽 The Professional and Apprentice license types would still be in use.聽Licensed聽Real Estate Inspectors would not need to upgrade聽if they did not wish to do so聽and can聽renew as the same license type.聽 However, no new applications for this license type would be considered or accepted.聽

The Education Subcommittee and a working group of subject matter experts have completed the new Legal and SOP update course聽for mandatory continuing education.聽 This course, pending approval by the 星空体育app下载 Commissioners in May, will go into effect in September, and it will be valid for two years.聽聽Since聽this course was written internally this time around聽there was a lot of work that went into this course from staff, committee members,聽and other聽inspector聽volunteers.聽 Their efforts on this are greatly appreciated.聽

The big topics聽at the April Committee meeting聽were the proposed changes to the SOPs and the report form.聽 The Standards of Practice Subcommittee has been working on this SOP revision for over two years now.聽 They have gone above and beyond to make changes to the SOPs that have been needed for some time聽and others that came聽from聽input聽from聽staff and inspectors across the state.聽 Again, the amount of time and effort put forth by this聽subcommittee, past聽subcommittee members, and other volunteers聽are聽greatly appreciated.聽聽These proposed revisions have had a lot of thought and discussion聽go聽into them.聽 They will be proposed at the May Commission聽meeting.聽聽The earliest that these SOP changes would be approved would be at the August Commissioner鈥檚 meeting.聽 Please take a moment to go through the proposed changes聽after the May meeting聽and submit any feedback that you might have聽using the new聽online public comment聽tool or submit comments to General Counsel聽to聽[email protected].听听听

At the last meeting, it was determined that the street address for inspectors would no longer be listed on the 星空体育app下载 website when pulling up an inspector鈥檚 license.聽 There was some confusion on whether licensees would have to request this formally or not.聽 That is not the case.聽聽The staff聽has removed the street address from all inspectors鈥 information聽on the 星空体育app下载 website.聽 The city, state, and zip code will still be listed to ensure that consumers looking for a license holder within a certain geographical area will still be able to search based on that criteria.聽聽

We are coming to the end of this pandemic. I want to thank all of you聽for your continued professionalism during this unusual time.聽Thank you to our volunteer聽committee members for their hard work at this meeting.聽

I look forward to seeing them and many of you in person again soon.聽聽
